Election-day volunteers needed
Many states have been overwhelmed by voter registration and are desperately short on poll workers for election day. As blackleatherrain says on the Working the polls page

A good poll worker can ensure the validity and quality of their precinct's poll results. A poor poll worker can cause strife in the polling process, and result in registered voters losing their most fundamental of rights as an American of majority age.Pollworkers for Democracy has a national signup page. This page has action alerts for specific states.
Virginia
Virginia estimates they need 2000 more poll workers! You must be a registered voter in Virginia -- and that is the only requirement.If you'd like to help, please reply to sapsel@vavoterprotection.com.
Pennsylvania
From a comment thread:The Obama Voter Protection Team has an urgent need for volunteers to assist on Election Day at polls all across the state! Help protect the vote and ensure that every registered voter has the opportunity to cast a ballot.
(If you are located out of state, we will assist you with housing.)
