"We'll send the petition to the chairs of the Democratic and Republican parties in every state. It's our way of telling them: We're watching. We're spreading the word. And we're not going to let you get away with it."

I had a goofy idea in the shower this morning. It's not perfect, but hear me out.
I do not trust the touch screen voting machines with no paper trail in my area. I thought of taking a picture of myself touching said screen with my cellphone to properly document by vote. What if someone set up a site, not unlike this one, with a special email or phone number that people can send such pictures to? Problems: A) people sending in more than one picture: solution, count by unique cellphone number B) loss of anonymity: nobody forces anyone to do this, it's not part of the official system. you choose to loose a certain amount of anonymity by using the service, but also provide a verifiable (within reason) record of your vote C) polling places not allowing phones C is the biggest problem I can think of. If widely adopted, a system like this could be a meaningful tool in detecting large scale vote suppression, in terms of vote-flipping and other shenannigans. Just a thought. I don't have the resources or time to follow through on a project like this. perhaps someone else who reads this site does? |

A recent report indicated that college-age and African American precincts in Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia will not have sufficient numbers of voting machines or election staff to handle the number of voters expected on Election Day."
The link below leads to an editable form email to be sent to the powers that be. If you're in one of those states, call your election offices and demand more machines! http://ent.groundspring.org/EmailNow/pub.php?module=URLTracker&cmd=track&j=240643009&u=2545435 |

I saw Source Watch listed as a partner in one of Jon Pincus's posts about this effort, but was curious what their role specifically is? I am meeting with Source Watch's creator, John Stauber of the Center for Media and Democracy, this coming week, and would very much like to engage him in this project as much as possible. He is extremely well respected in Madison, WI, and he could be a particularly integral ally to reach out to the massive Madison based activist community for this project. Plus, he already has a stable of new media activists from his own wiki-campaigns like Source Watch and Congresspedia, so he should be able to reach out to many new media and wiki savvy activists for this effort.
